Last week we were with an old friend who just bought a new bike.
Collection one, a Norton commando Guskuhn.
I told him that  my Guzzy was much better (when she was alived) and was not a pack of bolts, sewing them on the road when you he could eventually start it.
Then he decided to bring the bike in the kitchen (from garage thru garden), and he started it at first try on the kickstarter.

Well, OK, it worked, but does not smell like roses ...

Whenever I see something yellow called Norton, no matter what, I can't help but think it is terribly slow and a waste of time and money...

Norton Commander is an awesome machine (and British ofc), Italian machines may look nice but they are poorly engineered.

WHAT ? stop smoking your carpet, you are totally wrong, of course Italian machines are much better than English ones, and have always been.
Norton, BSA or Triumph had a nice old look, but never won anything but TT.
May I recall to you, that MV AGUSTA always showed her back wheel to any british bike ? even Mike the Bike had to drive MV and Ducati because english bikes were really too slow.

Now, of course, if you like fixing things again and again, having always a bag full of tools, screws, bolts, tons of pieces like cylinders head gaskets then English bikes are really good for you.

All GB bikes anyway desapeared 20 years ago. Norton restarting .. with a US owner...

a saying here in Bavaria:

"got schütze uns vor sturm und wind und Autos die aus England sind".

And at the end of the day the isle of man TT is the only true test of man and machine. Anyone who wins here deserves loads of respect (see the Dunlop family and countless others)

Exactly, it is the only race that requires both great skill and well engineered bikes.
