|
So I went out and bought this Dragon Age game that everyone is talking about, only to find out that my ancient Radeon 9600 gfx card isn't supported...
I've been postponing buying a new PC for a while because I wanted to wait until Windows 7 was out, which it is now, so this is as good an excuse as any I guess. Unfortunately I haven't really been keeping up to date in the hardware area for the last 5 or so years, since i bought my current PC, so I'm gonna need a bit of help putting the right stuff together... So far I've put together the following: Case: Antec Performance One P183 955,00 kr. PSU: Xilence 600W 13 cm Fan REDWING 607,00 kr. CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad (2.8GHz) Q9550 BOX 1.525,00 kr. MB: ASUS P5Q3 826,00 kr. Memory: Corsair Twin3X4096-1333C9DHX (DDR3) 2x2048MB 841,00 kr. GFX: ASUS EAH4870/DK/HTDI/1GD5 1.110,00 kr. HDD: Western Digital 500 GB 352,00 kr. DVD: LG GH22NS40 Super Multi Black 258,00 kr. OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit) 1.287,00 kr. Monitor: Samsung 24" SyncMaster P2450H 1.696,00 kr. Total: 9.457,00 kr. (That's all in danish kroner, because we don't like those evil euro's... divide by 7.5 or so to get it in euro) I would appreciate it if someone could take a look at it and tell me if it looks completely stupid or I forgot something in there.

For those who are interested in the price, right now 9457 DKK is 1271.10 euro. The system looks quite ok I guess

It's a decent gaming rig setup you have there.
Only thing i would change is the ASUS EAH4870 card for maybe a Nvidia GTX295. I don't like ATI cards, but that's my personal preference.

I do think a gtx295 cost an arm and a leg.. i am not sure what the new atis (5xxx-series) cost? or maybe a cheaper nvidia if you wanna really get rid of the ati

Well that's just the eternal ATI vs. nVidia fight, I had an even more ancient GeForce2 card before the ATI card I have now, and I'm sure there was a reason I switched to ATI, just can't remember what it was...
Anyway, I added some links to a few of the pieces.

I know, i used to like ATI cards at some point. But not anymore.

The only GTX295 I could find costs about 3x the ATI one, 3300kr.
Couldn't find any of the newer ATI ones.

Well, there's some cheaper Nvidia GTX2xx series cards available. Like the GTX260 card, which should give the 4870 a small beating still.

Like I told you I myself have a gtx275, and it runs everything I want on max quality, but I'm not sure how expensive it is atm :) Anyway in the end it all depends on how much you want to spend. The 4870 is definately not a bad card.

Found a newer ATI card, not sure if it's better though
XFX Radeon HD5770 1.278 kr. The GFX275 series is slightly more expensive 200kr or so.

I bought the Antec 182 for Mirva's computer, since I was told it was a brilliant tower. I must admit that I wasn't terribly impressed by it, so if you want to save a few bucks I would go for a cooler master tower like this one http://shg.dk/products/productInfo.aspx?productId=2193366&variantId=2193366 instead. Which I actually find to be a nice tower. But that is all a matter of preference I guess.
The processor seems to be the one where you get the most bang for the buck at the moment, at least if you take this site's charts for the face value: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/ I have some decent expirience with the brand of RAM, though I would consider getting a little more than 4GB now that you buy a 64bit operating system. I don't know if you are famliar with the differences in the different versions of Windows 7, since I am not. But from what I could see when I skimmed it for Mirva, home premium would be enough for us. If someone knows the intricate details, feel free to share them. /Sundew

Difference between Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate, well they are: BitLocker + 35 language packs and a few euro/kroner.

I bought a GF GTX 275 in july when I got a new computers. At least then it seemed to be one better once when I took in price + performance. Well thats the opinion I formed then at least
![]() nVidia have always worked flawless for me, although for Eq2 it shouldn't matter if you use ATi instead. Some newer games though works beter with one or the other. Like Age of Conan run fine (not counting memory leaks) on my old GF 7800, but had issues with ATi. anyway.... Also the Nvidia 260+ series cards are encased in a plastic hood so the heat from it won't escape into the tower. And about the tower Seemed to be a nice one but if you want something good and cheaper I also recomend a Coolermaster. The one Sun linked isa good one. Anyway I was in a hurry when I bought mine so I just went to ww.komplett.se/dk/no ![]() And tweaked all 4 gamer packages they had and took ther one I liked best, they get alot cheaper when you remove unnecessary crap from them. Got a free upgrade to Win7 too even if it was shipped with vista.

like ppl already said, its no use to get winsows 7 ultimate. pro version is enough for a gaming pc. I would sugjest to go for the new i5 750. its cheaper then the q9550 and the motherboards for the cpu are almost the same price. If you got for a i5 750 you need some low voltage ddr3. The 4870 preforms on par with the new 5770. some games the 4870 is better other games the 5770 is better. So if they dont differ a lot in price i would go for the 5770 because the preformance may still improve with new drivers. The nvidia 275 is better then the ati 4870 and the 5770. The 5770 is capable of doing direct x 11. 1 of my roommates has an antec p182. Its a nice case if you want a quiet pc, but by the looks of it you havent chosen the componets to be quiet (no huge processor cooler). If you dont want a quiet pc i would go for a different case as the p183 is pretty expensive. The cooler master cm690 is a nice case.

I thought the 182 would be quiet, but the stock coolers in there weren't and all in all I don't think it is particularly quiet compared with other cases. But that is just a personal experience. /Sundew

yes thats true, but i forgot to tell that my roommate has removed all the stock fans and uses scythe low speed fans on a fancontroller so they rotate AT 600 rpm. He also did some modifications to the case and uses huge cooler on his cpu and gpu and now its almost impossible to hear his pc.

So based on what you're all saying, this would be better:
Case: Antec Performance One P183 955,00 kr. PSU: Xilence 600W 13 cm Fan REDWING 607,00 kr. CPU: Intel Core i5 750 1.365,00 kr. MB: ASUS P7P55D 980,00 kr. Memory: Corsair Twin3X4096-1333C9DHX (DDR3) 2x2048MB 841,00 kr. GFX: XFX Radeon HD5770 1.287,00 kr. HDD: Western Digital 500 GB 352,00 kr. DVD: LG GH22NS40 Super Multi Black 258,00 kr. OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Hope Premium (64bit) 652,00 kr. Monitor: Samsung 24" SyncMaster P2450H 1.822,00 kr. Total: 9.119,00 kr. (The price of a few of the components in the previous config has actually changed +300kr since last night, so this is about 650kr cheaper) The Antec case is still in there, because the Coolermaster one seems to have all the front panel stuff placed on the top of the case, which just wont work for me. Plus I kinda like the Antec one...

I'm using the Cooler Master Stacker 830 tower and I'm very happy with it. Its a high quality tower and I got it because I wanted to upgrade the hardware inside and keep the tower for a long time. If you want to "change" the tower as well next time you get an upgrade PC, this tower is to expensive to "trash" with the PC I guess.
(http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?category_id=18&product_id=15) CPU Cooler: Are you sure you wana go with the boxed version? For very little money you get some excellent quiet CPU coolers. I'm using the Arctic-Cooling Freezer 7 Pro on my CPU now and its nice and quiet. Cost less than 20 Euro. Power consumption: Asus is not well known for making low power consumption boards. They tend to eat up alot of power even when the PC is off. Just a note. I agree. No need for Win 7 Ultimate. Are you gona build it yourself ? Or do you have a shop where you can have it build?

ahh forgot:
Make sure the GFX card fits inside the case. Some of the new GFX cards are damn long and will not fit...

The cooler isn't really important to me, it can easily be changed later if it's too noisy.
I will probably be building it myself, used to do that all the time at work, so shouldn't be a problem unless something radically changed over the last few years...

I was a bit confused bout the tower Maz, the one I bought was http://shg.dk/products/productInfo.aspx?productId=811105&variantId=811105, and not the one I linked to before, just to clarify.
